Martvili Monastery, perched on a hill overlooking the town, was once a pagan ritual site before becoming an important Christian monastery in the 7th century.It was a spiritual center of the Samegrelo region, where Megrelian princes (Dadianis) were baptized.The monastery is known for its ancient frescoes and a legend stating that St. Andrew preached Christianity here. Nokalakevi, an archaeological site, combines history with nature, offering a chance to explore ruins of an ancient fortress while surrounded by scenic hills and a flowing river.The area is rich in biodiversity, home to rare plant species, colorful butterflies, and migratory birds that thrive in the humid, subtropical climate of Samegrelo.
